Jadon Sancho is undoubtedly one of the most promising talents in Europe, even the world, so with rumours going around that the England youngster may be coming to Old Trafford in the near future, albeit still being rumours, I look at how this could interfere with the progress of summer signing Daniel James.
If he does sign there would be a very good chance he would go straight into the side, with James more than likely to be the one dropped from the team, which would be unfair for one of our top performers of the season to date.
James has played 17 games for Manchester United, scoring three goals and assisting 5, which for a £15 million signing from the Championship isn’t a bad return at all.
In recent weeks he has plateaued in performances and this could be down to our over-reliance on the winger, so the signing of Sancho could calm this down.
The signing could also help the progression of James, and even Mason Greenwood, as it’ll give them an extra bit of competition and encouragement to push on and cement their place in the team.
Sancho’s stats clearly show that he would be a world class addition to the Manchester United squad, playing 14 games in the league this season, scoring 9 and assisting 9 in what is a continuation from his impressive first season at Dortmund, which attracted attention from the biggest clubs in the world.
Whilst I have seen people saying that we shouldn’t sign him because of James, it may be a blessing in disguise for the Welshman, as he can fight for his place, or even shine as an impact sub which so many have at our club in the past, such as the current manager.
Yes, he would stop the progression of one of the most promising players at our club on one hand, but on the other, IF Sancho is interested in coming to United, we need to splash the cash and get him to sign on the dotted line because he could be a bog step in the right direction for our football club.
