Marcus Rashford scored a brilliant solo goal as Manchester United beat Burnley 2-0 in the fourth round of the EFL Cup.
Christian Eriksen opened in the first half after a great assist from Aaron Wan-Bissaka, before Rashford doubled the lead after the break at Old Trafford.
The Clarets looked strong at points and had late chances to get back in the game, but United’s defence stood strong.
Erik Ten Hag went for a rotated side, particularly in defence, with Casemiro starting at centre back and Wan-Bissaka returning on the right.
After a relatively even opening twenty minutes, with Garnacho going close twice, it was Eriksen with the opener in 26 minutes.
A brilliant ball over the top from Bruno Fernandes allowed Wan-Bissaka to hit a wonderful cross back into the box for the Dane to tap in.
Minutes later Martial looked to make it 2-0, but his shot went straight into the Burnley keeper’s hands.
Despite two blunders from Dubravka in two minutes towards the end of the first half the Red Devils maintained their first half advantage heading into the break.
Burnley came out strong in the second half, but it was Rashford who doubled United’s lead.
In the 57th minute the 25-year-old sprinted with the ball from his own half and put a brilliant finish into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.
Vincent Kompany’s side were not going out without a fight however.
The Claret’s had a few chances to get one back most notably in the 67th minute when Churlinov was through on goal but he fired just wide of Dubravka’s goal.
Despite a late chance for Ashley Barnes to get the visitors back in the game it is Erik Ten Hag’s side who will progress to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.
