Rodri has returned to fitness and is expected to start. January signing Antoine Semenyo has impressed since arriving and should feature again. Omar Marmoush remains away on AFCON duty.

United sit seventh in the table, within touching distance of the top four despite a run of draws slowing momentum. Carrick should be a welcome safe pair of hands, and we expect the former interim manager and United legend to add a sense of certainty and structure to the squad.
City remain in the title race and have enjoyed recent success at Old Trafford, winning more Premier League away games here than any other visiting side. United lost the reverse fixture 3-0 earlier this season and have failed to score in four of the last five home league meetings.
This game is more than just three points though. City are bitter cross-town rivals and have been the clear dominant force in English football over the last decade or so. Pep’s sky blues are probably odds-on favourites to win this tie, but really anything can happen on derby day – remember Diallo at the Etihad? Van Persie? Rooney? Scholes? Owen? Rashford?

Carrick is expected to keep things straightforward in his opening match. United should line up with a back four, prioritising compactness and reducing space between the lines rather than pressing high for long periods.
Casemiro’s role in front of the defence will be vital, while Fernandes will be tasked with turning turnovers into controlled attacks rather than rushed transitions.

A Manchester derby under a new interim head coach will be predictably unpredictable. If United stay organised early and avoid conceding first, this can become a proper contest.
United have the ability to beat any team on our day – the trouble is, those days haven’t come around often enough in recent times.
If Carrick can bring discipline and structure to the side, the defence stays switched on and players like Sesko, Mbeumo and Fernandes step up to the mark, a raucous Old Trafford could just see United over the line.
