Class of 92 – A Help Or Hindrance?

The Class of ’92 are a bit like your child; where you love them no matter what but sometimes you just wish they thought before they spoke. They literally need no introduction, providing the club with the most successful period of its history. However, does this mean that their footballing opinions post their careers actually help the club now?

Paul Scholes and Gary Neville are the ones that are the most vocal of the class. They are in a position of power in terms of their respective media work. This then becomes dangerous between the club and fans. As soon as a difference in opinion between these and fans occur it can immediately inflate an already existing disgruntlement.

Gary tends to articulate his opinion on the running on the club well on Sky. He is quoted to say that the running of the club is a “mess”. He’s certainly not wrong and I would suggest, whether you agree with everything he says, Neville is certainly not a hindrance. However, Scholes is quite the opposite as he tends to be less tactful in his approach of criticism. Recently, the former United midfielder took to social media with a picture of Dwight Yorke suggesting that new acquisition Ighalo is not up to United’s standard.  There is no way that this can be seen to be beneficial to the situation at Manchester United.

Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville and even more so David Beckham tend to be a lot less vocal with their thoughts on Manchester United and this obviously doesn’t harm the state of affairs. Then there is obviously Nicky Butt who is part of the United set up and on a daily basis is trying to help the cause.

With all of this being said the one big underlining factor is their relationship with the man at the helm, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Whether they know it or not but this will naturally cloud the judgment on opinions of the class of ’92. The friendship of Ole cannot be underappreciated, why would they criticise Ole if they could avoid it? This is why we have seen the lack of scrutiny placed at Ole’s door from the class of ’92, and also other media outlets.

Now whether these guys are helping or not, I think, heavily links with what your views are on the Ole, the Glazers and the club in general. Even though I very much respect all their views as they have all been there and done it, I don’t always agree with their opinions. One thing they all should realise is that they should be wary of what they say and how they say it because it can make things a lot worse.
